Discover the rich history and enduring legacy of the Palais Garnier with a special anniversary exhibition celebrating 150 years of this legendary Paris opera house. Titled “Le Palais Garnier: 150 Years of a Legendary Theatre,” the exhibition at the Opera Library-Museum offers an in-depth look at one of the world’s most iconic cultural landmarks.
Commissioned by Napoleon III and inaugurated in 1875, the Palais Garnier was originally dedicated to opera and later became a major center for ballet and dance. Renowned for its breathtaking architecture and opulent interiors, it is steeped in myths and legends that have inspired countless writers and filmmakers, including the famous tale of The Phantom of the Opera.
The exhibition brings together nearly 100 exceptional works, including paintings, drawings, posters, photographs, archival documents, manuscripts, stage designs, costumes, and historical objects. These rare pieces trace the evolution of the Palais Garnier from its creation to its status today as a global symbol of artistic excellence.
Visit the exhibition from 15 October to 17 February 2026 and explore 150 years of opera, dance, architecture, and cultural heritage in the heart of Paris.
